How can I get rid of cellulite?

Top tip for getting rid of cellulite

This week I was asked by a friend who has recently had her second baby: How do you get rid of cellulite?

The short answer is….. you can’t. Sorry!

Although it’s not all doom and gloom - there are ways to improve it’s appearance and in some cases make it seem like it has gone away entirely. Like the sound of that? Here’s how.

First of all, let’s be clear - cellulite can be seen on both men and women. However, it is more commonly seen in women due to how we distribute the fat in our figures (basically, we have lovely bums). Also, it is perfectly natural, cellulite is just fat cells showing up against your skin’s connective tissue.

Cellulite can be lightly visible in some people, but much more in others - that sort of orange peel effect. This is to do with each persons age, skin-type, hormones and fitness levels.

Poor circulation is said to be one of the causes of the larger dimples, and those who workout more, usually have improved circulation. So there is a  direct correlation between improved fitness and reduced dimples.

Age also plays a big part. As you get older, skin loses it elasticity as we start to produce less collagen - that wonderful chemical that makes skin bounce back - as we count away the years.

So what can you do to reduce the appearance of cellulite?

  • Lose excess weight. Reducing the volume of each fat cell is the first step to improving the visibility of those dimples. The cell will always be there, but reducing its volume is key. The average weight loss at boot camp is 3.7kg, which means attending a fitness and weight loss boot camp would be a great first step in busting that bum into shape!

  • Strengthen!  Strengthening the muscles in your legs and buttocks. Our chief instructor Jamie is able to create you a 4 week fitness plan via the True Coach app for just £25 and can help target the areas affected the most. Sign up now.

  • Eat right. You are what you eat and therefore make sire you’re giving your body all the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. A diet that is high in antioxidants, omega-3 and fibre is likely to support the improved appearance of orange peel. Stock up on asparagus, spinach, papaya and oily fish like salmon. Oh, and drink less coffee: Caffeine dehydrates you and makes cellulite more pronounced!

  • Take care of your skin. Brush skin in circular movements in shower with a scrub, as not only will this exfoliate your skin, but it will help improve circulation. Then moisturise with good quality moisturisers with collagen. Keeping the skin hydrated will keep the skin healthier for longer.

While cellulite might be a pain and a frustration to some women, remember you’re not alone. We all have it.
